Diabetes can cause serious problems in your mouth. But you can do something about it.

Patients with uncontrolled blood sugar are prone to develop gum disease more often and more severely, and they lose more teeth than

persons who have good control of their blood sugar.

Oral health problems associated with diabetes:

1. Gum disease

2. Tooth decay

3. Fungal infections

4. Dry mouth

5. Infections and delayed healing

6. Bad breath (Halitosis)

7. Bad taste in the mouth

How to prevent oral health problems?

1. Professional cleaning at the dental clinic

2. Regular dental check-ups and gum screenings

3. Maintaining a well-balanced diet

4. Good oral care at home

5. Over-the-counter products

6. Updating medical records

Remember to inform your dentist about your disease and the medications you are taking.

ORAL HEALTH is important during pregnancy and should not be neglected

  • Try to make a dental appointment before getting pregnant.
  • Don't skip your dental checkup appointment simply because you are pregnant.
  • Hormonal changes can make gums sore, swollen and bleeding.
  • All pregnant women should receive thorough dental cleaning during pregnancy which helps prevent most gum problems.
  • The best time for dental treatment during pregnancy is in the second trimester.
  • Frequent daily brushing (three times a day) and flossing, will greatly reduce gum swelling, sensitivity, and the risk of develo-ping periodontitis.
  • Snack less often, or eat sweets at the end of a meal instead of between meals.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Remember to inform your dentist about any disease and the medications you are taking.
